This summer we look forward to continuing our work at the Cedar Grove site on Ames Plantation in Western Tennessee, where our excavations are focused on antebellum plantation sites. To participate in our annual field school, students must apply to enroll in either the ARCE 120 or ARCE 450 courses. While these courses are administered by Rhodes College, students attending Rhodes College as well as external institutions are encouraged to apply.
ARCE 120: This course and accompanying lab focus on a scientific understanding of the biological and geological methods and theories that are relevant to human and environmental interaction in pre-historic and historic sites of human occupation. Research areas include:
Environmental change and human activity
Plant and animal domestication and exploitation
Methods for dating artifacts.
ACRE 450: This course is an advanced archaeological methods course. For more information contact Dr. Kimberly Kasper.
