The Roots of Our Work
Radicle is a multifaceted environmental anthropological project that focuses on environmental, social, and food justice. In the spirit of the liberal arts, our interdisciplinary team is working in the intersections - of urban and rural spaces, the past and the present, and the sciences and the humanities. Memphis and its linked rural entities create an ideal landscape to understand the ways that these spaces, associated practices, and people interact with one another while maintaining separate identities and characteristics. We are dedicated to reckoning with the “roots” of our collective histories through a deep investigation of the Indigenous land that was colonized and the institution of slavery that built and shaped the Memphis economy. Our goal is to shift out-dated regional narratives and co-create historically based and socially just solutions for the 21st century.
